I'm the only the child, grew up as a picky eater and spoiled until I turned into a teenager where I can't demand for what I like because my mom wouldn't give in anymore. My mom kept on sharing my story as a stubborn and picky eater on every occasion where our family and relatives are gathered. She told us that no amount of spanking and starving could force me to eat fish. I cried so much whenever I don't like the food served and my mom used to say that "if I don't eat fish, I'll die" and she told us that my usual reply would be 'I will die too if I eat the fish'. I don't know, it's something about the smell of the fish and I fear of being poke/choke by the fish bone. Until now, I don't eat fish, except the canned tuna made in my country. My all time favorite is hotdog, whenever I cry because I don't want to eat fish or vegetable, my dad who somehow spoiled me would always tell our househelper to fry hot dogs for me. I grew up liking a particular Filipino hot dog brand 'Purefoods' . Usually hot dogs in my country are part of every breakfast meal. It's hot dog, egg and rice / fried rice. In my case, I don't care if I will be eating hot dogs on all my meals for the day, even everyday! When I got here in USA, I always buy the same brand of hot dog but under a different packaging, see photo. It cost around $3.75-$4.75 per pack (12 pcs/pack). A day came when I ran out of this hot dog, and I can't go right away to the Filipino store and I'm craving for some, I tried to find some USA hot dog brands. I tried the Jeannie-O turkey hot dog which only cost $0.98/pack. It was a hit in my house, my son loves it and hubby likes making hot dog sandwich. By the way, where do hot dogs originated? I read it came from Germany and it was suspected made from dog meat which was common in Germany. Hot dogs are sausage served in a sliced bun with garnishes. The common ingredients of hot dog are meat trimmings and fat; flavorings, such as salt, garlic and paprika; and preservatives. Pork and beef are the traditional meats used but less expensive ones are made from chicken or turkey. I mentioned that hot dog is unhealthy because it was reported that consuming 1 hot dog every day increases risk of colorectal cancer by 20%. They are very high in fat and salt and have preservatives sodium notrate and nitrite, believed to cause cancer. If I have a bad habit that is so difficult to let go, that's eating hot dog. I grew up believing that hot dog is the best food, hard to believe but it's the truth. I remember I cried when my co-worker and I ordered a meal with hot dog ingredient and my co-worker poked the hot dogs and ate all of them. That was embarassing because I acted like a baby robbed by a candy. Todate, my son and I love the Jeannie-O Turkey Hot dog and he's starting to be hooked with it which I don't want to happen. I want my son to eat healthy food and I will do my best for him not to take the same path that I've taken when it comes to eating habits and stuff to eat.
